Reporting a Security Incident

Created by Trevor S, Modified on Fri, 16 May at 2:25 PM by Trevor S

If you suspect a security incident — whether it's a phishing email, data breach, or unusual system behaviour — it's vital to report it immediately. Fast action helps us reduce risk and limit any potential damage.

What Is a Security Incident?

A security incident is any activity that could compromise your company’s data, systems, or network. Common examples include:

  • Clicking on a phishing email link or entering credentials on a fake website

  • Receiving suspicious emails, especially those asking for login details, payments, or file downloads

  • Unusual activity on your account (e.g. unexpected logins or password change notifications)

  • Discovering malware, ransomware, or unauthorised software on a device

  • Lost or stolen company devices (phones, laptops, USB drives)

  • Any suspected data breach or file exposure

What to Do Immediately

  1. Don’t panic — quick action makes all the difference

  2. Disconnect from the internet if you suspect your device is infected

  3. Do not delete or forward suspicious emails — they may be needed for analysis

  4. Make a note of what happened and when

  5. Contact Fusion IT straight away — preferably by phone

Why Reporting Matters

Delays in reporting can significantly increase the risk of:

  • Data loss or theft

  • Spread of malware across your network

  • Compromised email accounts being used to target others
